ChatPC-4+

ChatPC-4+ is a dynamic display augmentative communication device using a ruggedized PocketPC.

ChatPC-4+ is designed for individuals with existing or emerging literacy skills. In addition to all of the features of the ChatPC-4, this model includes a number of features, such as word prediction, letter prediction and text editing capabilities, which are designed to assist individuals who use spelling for communication. A rubberized speaker and battery housing protects the ChatPC-4+ and enhances its ruggedness, sound quality and battery life.

ChatPC-4+ is intended for individuals with existing or emerging literacy skills. This model has all the features necessary to use and create vocabulary sets using symbols and photographs as well as spelling enhancement tools.

ChatPC-4+ provides Word Prediction, Letter Prediction and Abbreviation Expansion. The ChatPC-4+ also allows the option of accessing Windows applications in the PocketPC operating system.The ChatPC-4+ is built upon a Casio PocketPC computer, and offers a brilliant color dynamic display along with both synthesized and digitized speech output.

The original ChatPC was introduced in 2000 and soon became the most widely used PDA-based communication device available. Saltillo is happy to introduce the ChatPC-4+, the latest model in this versatile line of products. The ChatPC-4+ builds upon the features that have made previous versions of this product so valuable, but includes many new enhancements that make it even more useful and powerful. Among the enhancements are powerful new vocabulary options, increased ruggedness and many new features that increase the flexibility and ease of use of this product.

One of the many highlights of the ChatPC-4+ is PalmChat, a word-based vocabulary, created by Nancy Inman, M.A.T., CCC-SLP and Janet S. Lehr, M.S., CCC-SLP, both who are widely known for the their work in developing, implementing and teaching word-based vocabulary programs. PalmChat is the first generative, core word vocabulary available for the ChatPC and is a major advancement for individuals who want a flexible language program, but do not want to sacrifice device portability.

The ChatPC, always known as a durable device, has become even more rugged in this latest model. The PDA integrated into the ChatPC-4+ is a ruggedized, industrial computer, covered by a rubberized housing that offers additional protection to bumps, drops and accidents. The clear screen cover can serve as a stand when the ChatPC-4+ is being used, and as a screen protector when being transported. The new case also has a convenient means of connecting to a wheelchair mounting system.

Another significant enhancement in ChatPC-4+ is the integration of Loquendo speech synthesis. Loquendo has set the standard in the European Telecom community and is now available for the ChatPC. The Loquendo speech has a more natural sound in English and other languages. Simply by choosing different voices from a menu, the ChatPC-4+ can speak English, French, or Spanish. DecTalk is also still available as an option for those who prefer the classic voice of ChatPC.

Desktop ChatPC Software:
You customize and add vocabulary on the ChatPC-4+ itself. In addition, software is included which allows all of the editing and customizing to be performed on a Windows 2000, XP & Vista computer. This program also provides an easy means of importing photos and other graphics to be used as symbols on the ChatPC-4+. Cables and instructions are included for downloading the vocabulary to the ChatPC-4+.

Customizing the ChatPC-4+:
ChatPC-4+ includes many customizing capabilities that help you fine-tune the unit for the individual tastes and needs of the operator. The size, color,  background and font of the keys can be customized for visual and cognitive perception. The touch-screen can be adjusted to meet the fine motor skills of the user. The messages and symbols on the keys can easily be changed.

Pocket PC Applications:
ChatPC-4+ is based on a PocketPC computer. One of the many benefits this provides is the ability to use PocketPC applications on the device.

The standard PocketPC applications that come loaded on your device include Pocket Word, Pocket Excel, a calendar and a calculator. There are also commercial PocketPC programs that can be purchased and run on the device.

Pre-Loaded Vocabulary:
ChatPC-4+ includes starter vocabulary sets, including VocabPC, a program designed for individuals with moderate cognitive disabilities and includes commonly-used carrier phrases, situational vocabulary and naming words. Plenty of space is left for customizing for individual needs.

PalmChat is a word-based vocabulary program option for those with literacy skills.  It uses high-frequency core words that have been arranged to facilitate quick and easy sentence generation.  Included in the program are frequently used nouns and adjectives that are organized into logical categories.  All grammatical word classes have been included.  Spelling is also available.  A "Grammar" key is included to provide  morphological endings for verbs, nouns, and adjectives.

Product Highlights

 >The number of buttons on a page. ChatPC has always allowed you to select the number of buttons on a page when you create the page. But what happens when the page is full but you still need to add a few buttons.  ChatPC-4+ allows you to easily change the layout of the page to add the extra buttons.
